One law student wrote in his diary:
5:00 a.m.-I woke up. The sound of the alarm from my cellphone bangs into my eardrums forcing me to surface from my slumber. For five minutes, I stared blankly in the dark which covers the whole room. I have nothing in my mind but blurred thoughts on why the alarm is so loud and unpleasant to the ear? Why should I be disturbed by this little thing? Why do I have to wake up so early?
5:05 a.m.-With my consciousness slowly coming back to me, all those questions started to disappear from my thoughts. I have to prepare my breakfast this early that I may have time to study. I have to go to school this early and sit in the library to study…to study…to study! I had to cover around 50 pages of three books memorizing and analyzing each word and letter for me to answer those terrifying questions dubbed as ”Socratic Method” which my professor would utter. Ah! It is not an easy task you know.
5:15 a.m.-(Yawn)! I still want to sleep.
5:20 a.m.-(Stretching) Well, this little exercise in the morning helps me build up some strength for the day ahead.
5:25 a.m.-Time to cook breakfast. I found some eggs in the fridge and cooked rice in the rice-cooker. Maybe, I will have some boiled egg for this time.
5:30 a.m.-I open up the television and watch some morning shows.
6:00 a.m.-Breakfast time.
6:30 a.m.-Dishwashing time
6:45 a.m.-Study time. I have to memorize Articles 1231 until 1261 of the Civil Code (Republic Act No. 386) for my Obligations and Contracts subject for this day. Well, another 30 articles to memorize word by word.
8:00 a.m.-Well, I have to stop. I have to take a bath and go to the library. I was able to memorize until Article 1237. Not Bad. I am not good in memorizing provisions or articles or sections or whatever the law will call it you know.
8:15 a.m.-Finished taking a bath.
8:40 a.m.-I went to school.
9:05 a.m.-Finally, I arrived. Well, my first task is to go to the chapel and pray for guidance and mercy from God. Spare us O Lord from the questions of the professor. O God please tell the professor to give us high grades when we are able to give good answers. Saved us from questions whose answers, we did not study.
9:20 a.m.-Arrived at the library. I have to look for a comfortable sit to study. Usually, I am not at the Law Library but in the College Library. I hate the Law library. I hate the scene of people blankly staring at you with their lips moving without uttering any word in that library. I cannot concentrate when those kind of faces dominate the area.
9:30 a.m.-I begin studying. Please do not disturb me. I am not that concentrated at all in studying. My mind will always wander and glides through the space of many ideas. I do get the words from the book I am reading which usually springs forth ideas and make my mind wander through different thoughts.
11: 30 a.m.-One hour break for lunch and other necessities.
12:30 p.m.-Time to sit back and study again. So far, I have covered 19 articles with some annotation reading explaining and expounding its meaning including interpretations of the Supreme Court from its decisions in actual cases.
3:30 p.m.-A little break for merienda.
3:45 p.m.-Study again.
6:45 p.m.-I have to stop studying. So far I have finished all I have to read and memorize all the provisions. Well, time to go to class at 7:30 p.m. But first, one more stop at the chapel for prayer and guidance. Hopefully, all that I have memorized are retained in my mind.
7:00 p.m.-Arrived at class. I conversed with some of my classmates. Most of them are not ready to be asked questions. I could say that I am the “most” ready compared to them. They haven’t yet mastered or even attempted perhaps to memorize the provisions of the law.
7:30 p.m.-Our professor didn’t arrived. We waited for another 30 minutes.
8:00 p.m.-Still no professor.
8:30 p.m.-We decided to go home.
